DO NOT USE THESE FRAUDSTERS! You have been warned! I would give it -1 stars if I could.

We had a bad experience with them on pick-up but the real sting came on return of the car: They swindled us out of 100 EUR!

The issues we had with them were:

1 When we came to pick up the car there was nobody to help us. There was a number on a piece of paper at the desk, which we phoned, but they only turned up 45 minutes later.

2 The car they gave us was old – 45,000 miles on the clock and lots of damage (but more on that later). Furthermore, the fuel tank was half full! How are we supposed to bring it back exactly half full? I think it is their way of saving a bit of money because they know we will probably over-estimate when we refill the tank, thus giving them a bit of petrol for free.

3 Here's the sting. When we returned it they pointed out salt stains on a couple of the seats, and charged us 100 Euros for cleaning it. There are several things wrong with this, but the main one is that they were charging us for internal damage when they did not do any internal checks when handing over! I felt slightly dumb about this as we didn't do any internal check either, but we have never been charged for the state of the interior, and i must have rented 100 cars in my time.

The fact is that we _might_ have caused the damage – we cannot be sure, but my wife (who was the only one to sit in the seat will the obvious salt stains) is very careful about things like getting in the car with wet clothes, so I find it highly improbable. Like I said above though, I have rented many, many cars in my time and left cars in a much worse state than that, and nobody has said anything on return – ever. If they are going to check for this, then they have to check it on pick-up like they do with the exterior.

Also, 100 Euros to clean up a couple of salt stains? Are they re-upholstering the car? Furthermore, if they are charging us for cleaning the interior, that leads me to believe that they never clean their car interiors?!

Next time I will be taking photos of the interior on pick-up like I do of the exterior, but it's sad we cannot trust people.

Hired a car with Active from Split Airport 28/07/2020. Car was dirty inside and out. Found old receipts in side door, so definitely not cleaned. Also, the petrol tank was half full, which not the policy. Not great considering COVID-19.

Two weeks ago we hired a car from Active Car hire at Zadar airport. We didn't have to wait for the car and the tank was full. We had a nice trip and a week later when we handed in the keys and the car they checked it and the same week the deposit was back on the credit card. The service was really good so we would recommend this car hire company.

Great service from Petar and Lino. We booked a car from Downtown, which is a 30 min walk or 5 min taxi from central Pula but reading other reviews and realising that was the case and that cars usually end up being from the airport 15 minutes from the Centre we called and spoke with Lino (Manager) he sent Petar with our car to the centre of Pula to pick us up and they couldn鈥檛 have been mire helpful. Just a little forward planning and time required to factor in getting to / from airport. Petar also drove us back to the centre of town after the rental. All in all great service and half the price If other rental quotes. Thanks lads ??

We booked a car weeks before arriving in Pula (Croatia). We were staying near the city centre so we requested a downtown pick up. When we arrived their downtown office was 6 Km in an industrial area and not on any bus route. Only after I rang to complaint did they offered to pick us up.

The car was old, not cleaned and had a dent on the side. It was not the car size i had booked and too big to manoeuvre in small town streets or park on main streets We asked for a GPS but because drop off was in another location (Split) they were not able to provide one.

At drop off the Active Office is on the main street and very busy with coach buses and heavy traffic. There was no parking area on site and extremely danger to stop let alone illegal. Would not recommend this mob to anyone.

We picked up our car in Dubrovnik drove it through Slovenia and into Hungary. Active were very helpful and efficient as they picked up the car from us at our destination in Budapest as arranged and on time. We thought the service was excellent and it really helped us out. I would recommend them and use them again.

Problem #1. We had great difficultly finding the address of 艩ijanska cesta 12a. Google maps got us nowhere near it and spent 10 minutes in a taxi driving around looking for it, only when we called the office and they explained to the driver where it was could we find it.
Problem #2. There was nobody at the office. We called the number and they said someone would be there within 20-30 minutes but it took over an hour for them to arrive.
Problem #3. When a girl did arrive her excuse for nobody being in the office that it was being 'redecorated' was obviously a lie (it is a tiny demountable office) and was otherwise unapologetic. She said we'd have to go into the airport office to complete the paperwork to collect the car.
Problem #4. When we arrived at the airport counter the young man serving us was similarly unapologetic and argued when I pointed out there was no-one at the address that our paperwork said to pick up the car from and said there was no-one there when we were there. There was also clearly no hire cars at this address so I feel very certain that this office is never open. By the time we completed the paperwork it was past 2.00 pm and we had lost 2 hours of our car hire which meant we had to completely change our plans and miss our planned stop at Motovun which was part of the reason we hired the car in the first place!

Rented a car from Active Car Rental in Luqa, Malta, through Ryan Air. We made this choice as 2 of the drivers are above 70 and it clearly stated: Driver's Age: 25 to 75 years. Upon our arrival on 22 May 2017, we were told that we had to pay extra per day for each of the two drivers who were respectively 73 and 74. The representative insisted that the 74 yr-old was in fact 75. His birthday is 15 October, therefore he is not 75 but she insisted he was as he was in his 75th year. Then tried to tell me I was also 70, my birthday being on 4 October. I strongly objected to that so she backed down. I showed her on the rental agreement that nowhere does it says you had to pay a surplus if you were over 70 but not 75 yet. She totally ignored this, saying it was just saying that but in fact we had to pay. We decided not to pay meaning I ended up being the only driver. We were told where the car was parked and it was up to us to find where the car was in the area of car rentals. Car was not examined but I took photos as I arrived and also when I left a week later. No other charges were made but if the Agreement clearly state for drivers 25 to 75, then no charges should be made, ever.

On the 22nd of May I rented a car with this company at the airport, upon pick up I informed the company that I would like to purchase the full insurance pack. The employee explained that my liability goes to 0鈧?and that I don't have to worry about scratches anymore. Be careful as you might have to pay and extra tax while pickup up the car during the evening. The employee gave me the key and told me to walk to the rent a car parking to reach the car. No one inspected the car with me but I was given a contract with the previous scratches which I was stupid enough not to check. The stay in Malta was great and on the 25th we delivered the car again at the airport, I was expecting someone to check the car with me as for standard operation procedures for rent a cars I used before, but no one showed up. I went to the airport to the rent a car desk and asked if we would check the car but he said that I had to deliver only the key. 5 days after I received and e-mail with 3 pictures of the car (one full picture, one picture of the left side of the car and another picture close up of the cover of the side mirror) attached with an invoice worth 188鈧?saying that the cover of the mirror was cracked (which is not visible in the picture even). The amount was taken straight away from my credit card. I called the office and replied to the e-mail and waited another 9 days for reply with stated that in case of damage I must inform police, otherwise insurance doesn't cover it. Upon delivery I didn't see any damage and until today I saw a picture of the cover of the mirror dirty(car is white). The procedures for this company are not the best and employees were not able upon pickup to explain the insurance coverage and conditions. I recommend everyone thinking about renting with them either to choose more liable and know company or to take extra precautions as pictures before and after delivery as they might take couple of hours to go and check your car after delivery damage can even be done at the open car parking by other drivers. After renting cars in several companies as Guerin,Avis,Budget, Europcar and Heartz this Active car rental was the company with worst customer service and conditions. Sometimes it's better to pay more and know that you are safe. You can indeed rent with this car rental but be very careful, make sure you take pictures of the care before and upon delivering it. You really need to protect yourself as they can be dangerous. After trading some emails with the CEO Johann Camilleri I asked him if he agrees with this review and he threatened me that he could seek legal advise for defamatory information. I would like to add that this is just my experience and also add that they removed their reviews info from the facebook page due to several complaints about the same. Stay safe and be careful in Malta.
