Skeptics could say it was so the American company could drive all their competitors around the world out of business. As an Australian it makes me mad that an American company would try to take a word from my language and trademark it so no-one could use it!
Whatever the motive, the truth is their boots are *not* made in Australia, they are *not* an Australian company and they do *not* guarantee to use Australian sheepskin in their ugg boots. Check out their website or ask their customer service people. You'll find the direct question gets a slippery answer.
There are a lot of boutique manufacturers here in Australia who do use 100% Aussie sheepskin and a handful still make them here in Australia, not China (where many manufacturers secretly source their boots, including the company above). You have to look to find the real Australian ones, but they do still exist. This is one. And none of them have the advertising budget to brainwash the public like a huge multi-national corporation. And these boutique manufacturers don't have a big budget to make a super-slick website.
Yes this company has an ancient looking site. But the boots are good. And the boots I bought from them far outlasted the Chinese pair I bought. Sometimes you still get what you pay for in life…

Customer service. We bought by mistake the wrong size
On 2013 And they had no problem to replace them, and they
Paid the shipping cost. Once received, I used them
All winter, was hard to get them off me. Just what I expected
From an Australian made. Buy with no hesitation.

We bought Australian made ugg boots from this company. We thought we'd rather support an Australian company than an American one manufacturing in China.
The boots were bought as a Christmas present in 2010 and by early April one of them had split at the front. This seems to me to be clearly goods that aren't fit for their intended purpose.
These aren't cheap items of footwear and I assumed the company would replace them as they'd only lasted a few months – how wrong I was!
They state there is a 30 day guarantee only (more than once in correspondence with me!)
Anyway… the reason I'm posting this is to give anyone else thinking of buying from this company a heads up.
We've replaced our daughters boots with the 'Ugg Australia' ones and they seem to me to be much better quality for not much more money.
I would not use this company again.

So anyway, the 'crystallized boots' are one of a series of new ranges under a new name, by the same company that trades at www.australianuggboots.com.au. You can also choose from the Trendy range, the Harmony range, the Home range and more, and all come without even the whisper of the word "ugg", so as not to upset those nice people at Deckers, Inc, who own the trademark in most of the world.
These are, therefore, Uggs, but not Ugg Australia Uggs, and unlike Ugg Australia Uggs, they are made in Australia, which is one of the few places in the world where ugg boots not made by Ugg Australia can be labeled as Uggs. Though because of the confusion, they often aren't labeled as such, which is ironic given that there are so few places where doing so is legal. And if you can't follow that, you probably shouldn't be buying online anyway.
These look good, I have to say, though I am at a loss to see either the attraction or the explanation for the "stealth" range, which don't look remotely stealthy to me. But the sparkly ones are pretty, or at least as pretty as an enormous clumsy sheepskin boot is going to get. And they're legitimately Australian, for anyone who wants to own an Australian-made product instead of the Chinese-made Uggåº Australia one. Just looking at the selection, I'd guess you could do a lot worse, and as long as getting one specific label isn't important to you, you should at least take a look at these. They aren't cheap, though – expect to pay up to $540 US or æ¢350 a pair.
