I came to Big Monster Toys for Open House Chicago, the free annual event put on by the Chicago Architecture Foundation. There was a long line to get into the toy design firm, but a friend and I waited and took a few photos with the popular photo-op, the huge yellow door. Once we got in around 30 minutes later, we spoke to a few employees who told us about the products they have created including various Polly Pocket Products and a newer game called Ribbon Ninja.

Overall, it was interesting to see what was behind the door and see the creative workspace, but I'm glad I didn't have to wait more than 30 minutes.

It was a pleasure and such fun to volunteer at The Open House Of Chicago 2018. Hundreds of people came out to explore across many Chicago diverse neighborhoods to visit this amazing and fun hidden gem. Just a thought of walking pass a Big Yellow Door with a Big Monster staring behind it. Wondering to yourself? What In the world is behind that door? Well hundreds of people got their chance to really witness what was behind that Big yellow secret door with a Big scary monster located on Racine Street. Not Open to the public. But you can always ride pass and jump out your car and snap some great photos for your FB or The Gram. Great place to come and take pics with yourself, friends, lover etc. You can only witness what is behind this door during The Open House of Chicago each year. At the open house your can tour the inside of this cool fun place. Until than I will keep a hush about what's behind the door. Don't want to spoil the fun. Nice neighborhood area. Great Tourist Spot.

LOL…we found the door! I'm not sure this constitutes as a full on review, but there's a page for Big Monster Toys, so I'll add in my two cents. I've wanted to visit this door…forever. I've wanted to take my kiddos there to check it out, thinking they'd be so overwhelmed with a "that was really cool" vibe. Sadly I didn't get that kind of reaction, but I did get to snap a photo of them in front of it, proving I made the stop. In truth, I think they thought I was a little crazy…like why are you taking us here? Age 13 sucks.

From a not-13-year-old's point of view, this is such a fun find and on my top 10 list of places to seek out with your kiddos (or for some silly time as an adult).

TL;DR: It's a fun giant door worth taking a photo in front of. The neighborhood is cute, so find a parking spot and walk around. Coffee shop nearby.

If you're in Chicago, you must stop by and take a picture of the door. It is pretty cool to check out. The door knob is pretty high so you have to jump pretty high to try and grab it. Very cool photo opp in Chicago!

The sister and I had a little time before heading to the airport and got the chance to stop here. The door can be easily missed but if you're on the lookout it'll be hard to miss. It really stands out on the sidewalk and such a cute local flavor.

The door itself is massive and you could see a monster peeking out the window. It's really cute and I got a lot of cute photos with it. It's definitely something to visit if you're looking for something unique in the city.

The big door is a big deal. We had so much fun just setting up to take pictures. They have this plaque on the wall that takes you down the street to a toy store. Unfortunately the door has nothing to do with the store and they explain that what's behind the big door is top secret and that no one is allowed behind the big door but that Monsters Inc. felt bad that kids were showing up and being disappointed so now they send them to the book store which is not bad w. In itself. They have a large collection for kids and even story time.

Finally got to check out my neighbor during Open House Chicago. This place was really cool.

If you've ever gone down this stretch of Racine, surely you've seen the oversized door with the big green monster peering out at you. They are a toy test lab for Fisher Price. It was a fun looking workplace with stuffed animals and toys at every turn.

Also had a nice small world moment meeting a new art director from SCAD, where my nephew is going to school.

We didn't get a chance to venture into the store, but we took plenty of photos of the monster door. Super cute place to take photos.

Wait, there is a store inside?

What a great photo op?! I've been in this area many times and have never ever encountered this cute door! The address takes you straight to the door. Parking can be challenging. There is a tow away spot nearly in front of the door and that is where I parked with the engine running…ready for the quick getaway when the meter maids roll by. It's a quick photo stop and that's it. I'm a little too old for toys so I'll probably never go back.

It's really just a door guys! Lol!
I thought there was something else.
I came here all by myself by train n bus. Kinda far.

Thank goodness there was a nice guy passing by and I asked him to take pic for me. Hehe.

Definitely come if you have time but don't be disappointed because it really is just a door! And come with friend! If not, hopefully you get lucky like I did!

Thank god for Local Flavor on Yelp.

A big door with a monster behind the door. DEFINITELY a cool photo opportunity.

There's nothing else much to it, but if you're feeling adventurous and bored then check it out. Fun to show off to your friends. 🙂

Yeah, I mainly came here just for the gram. Hahaha.

I actually came from the United Center and it was only a 10 minute walk. It's also right next to Warm Belly Bakery, one of the newest bakeries that serves good cookies and coffee.

The big monster door is a fun place to swing by for a photo op if you're in the neighborhood.

If driving, it's easy enough to pull up out front, throw your flashers on real quick, and run up to take a picture!

This place always gets the locals and tourists smiling!

Super cute local flavor of art. It's a HUGE door with a monster peeking thru the window. It's a great photo op for locals and visitors. You may miss it but try not to. Especially when you have kids. Such a cute place to take them to and check out the monster at the door.

The location is kinda near Greek town. not sure what area it is but close by the old Oprah set, near Cone ice cream, Leaders sneakers and little Au Cheval. Good luck in parking your car.

I came specifically to just take a picture with the door and it's as cute as it is online! However, it is a bit underwhelming. I took my picture and was off. A good thing to see if you're in the area.

This door is so awesome!

We walked right passed it at first since we were on the other side of the street.

Cute little photo op before having lunch at Au Cheval!

So cute!! Didn't realize you can't go in, so I was a little bummed that there wasn't more to see. Still, the door and the giant monster peeking out is so fun! It's a great place to stop and take a picture!!

If you like big doors, big knobs, and big windows with a giant green monster looking deep within your soul through the eye sockets of your head, then this place is for you. Super fun place to take cool and funny photos at. Not sure about the weight limit on the door knob, but I'm a plump 180 and held on with no problem.

A toy company in the West Loop!

They get 4 stars for having the best front door, with a big monster of course! My friends and I drove past it multiple times thinking that it was a scene out of Monsters, Inc. I did a search and found this article on the company: http://www.chicagoreader.com/pdf/051118/051118_cover.pdf

Make a trip to the west loop for some good old fashion fun.
