I bought a laptop from Bilka a year and a half ago – it started to have small issues in the last few months so I decided to take it to be checked at one of their centers in Amager before the warranty run out.
When I handed in I was given a form with all the details of the computer and details of the receipt, which I needed to sign to hand over the computer – they told me this was just a receipt to say that they had the computer and I knew etc – the form was in Danish and they didn't say anything else.

I was told that they would check to see the issues with the computer and I would be informed, so I left.

Fast forward 2 weeks – I received the computer back, I figured it was a minor issue as they hadn't written anything to me – when I picked up the laptop they told me they had replaced the SSD as well as the 'mainboard', my naive brain thinking that they must of transferred the files if they replaced major components of my computer without informing me.
But alas – when I opened my computer it was completely wiped, it didn't have any settings at all. I rang customer support 3 times to try desperately to retrieve my old hard drive, the first phone call they were helpful and said that when the repair shop opened the next morning they would call first thing and try to see if they had the hard drive – the next day I didn't receive a call by 11am, so I sat in a queue for 40 minutes on the phone, I finally got through to a very unhelpful woman who said she couldn't reach them so I should call later in the day and they would try again, I then rang again for them to tell me that the hard drive had been destroyed and that it was my responsibility to back it up.
At no point in the process was I ever made aware that would even be an option, they said that there was small print on the form I signed (in Danish) that gave them permission to destroy all of my data.
The laptop had very minor issues and there were absolutely no indications of major issues, it is like going in to the doctors for a cut and coming out with a new arm sewn on.

I cannot believe that this is the case – everyone I have spoken to has said that this is completely abnormal, and that the data should have just been transferred into another drive OR at the very least inform you that that would happen.

Yes, I am in Denmark and I am not totally fluent in Danish – I am still learning. But when I spoke to the woman at the desk she knew I spoke in English and could have informed me of such clauses – I didn't even see the text where this was supposedly written.

They say there is nothing they can do for me now – the hard drive is destroyed and the paper is signed, but I cannot urge you enough to boycott buying anything electrical from them. The customer service is awful and they simply do not care, it probably also has something to do with the fact I am English speaking so they cared even less. This could have been easily avoided, but instead I have a factory setting laptop for treating a minor issue. The incompetence is outstanding and I can only hope it doesn't happen to someone else.

I will never buy electronics from them again and I will advise as many as I can to avoid making the same mistake I made.
