Staff training needed in fire procedures. On March 5th we arrived from Dubai and awaited the return of our cases. Whereas I accept that an Emirates flight has a lot of baggage to take off the plane we considered the wait far too long – around 30 minutes. I have never waited so long in an airport to collect our baggage. Whilst still waiting the fire alarm went off and nobody seemed to know what to do. There was no loud speaker announcement just someone shouting to leave the building, which could easily have been missed if you were one end of the terminal. But as we tried to leave, the security doors were shut through to the outside area and people were kept locked in. As a public sector worker I have been trained to leave the building immediately and yet we were locked in the baggage collection area, which I consider a breach of fire regulations as shouldn't you leave immediately and report to an allocated point in the airport? Nobody seemed to know what to do and people were told not to collect any more bags but to leave – we couldn't. This could have turned into a very serious fire with casualties as people were not trained to react quickly. If the safety and security of passengers is of paramount importance why did this not continue when a fire bell rang – shame on you Birmingham Airport.

Dont think this really needs saying from the looks of other reviews but ill keep it short – avoid at all costs. Do yourself a favour and just pay a mate to drop you or get a taxi.

Two weeks ago I was taking my grandmother to the airport. She has gone through security without any issues. However when I got back to the car I realised she lost her phone in my car. Went back to the airport to check for solutions. Obviously the announcement wouldn't work, because my grandma doesn't speak English, but they have offered to go and have a look for her. Thank you for the gentleman who was 100% sure he will find her. I got a phone call from grandmother that she got the phone back. Thank you very much to the staff for being so nice and helpful.

last two departures from Birmingham airport security staff have been extremely rude. Never experienced this at any other airport.They obviously don't enjoy what they do and need extensive training in customer service. Would not recommend this airport.

Scam Additional parking charges N.C.P Birmingham Airport parking
We booked 7 days parking for car park 2 direct on the airport web site costing 拢74.73. Our exit from the terminal was delayed due to late flight arrival and no baggage handlers to transfer our bags to the collection hall. When attempting to leave the car park the exit barrier interface demanded an extra 拢18.00 at 25% surcharge. After pressing the help button for 25 minuets a N.C.P service operatives Trudy & Richard arrived at the barrier. We explained our delay was due to baggage handling and late flight arrival. Quote Trudy we are not interested if you do not pay the extra fee the police will be called and you will be arrested for obstruction.
Trudy and Richard if real names refuse to give surname or employee number identification.
You can not telephone or speak to any person at Birmingham Airport about your complaint.
This is a nasty sting at the end of you flight and a big money earner for N.C.P and Birmingham airport when they know that you have no control over flight delays or baggage handling
We advise you to use other airports or at least use off airport parking not operated by N.C.P

Awful experience at BHX again. Luggage took longer to get from the plane to the carousel than it took to get from Austria to Birmingham. Appalling service again. No one to contact in arrival area, just plenty of arrogant, idle staff in hi-viz doing nothing very slowly. If you have a choice of airports, bear in mind that it may be quicker overall to fly from an alternative airport that can actually manage luggage handling. Frequent flyers are all aware that BHX is probably the worst airport in Europe, if not the world, for baggage handling and has been for many years which proves that the management team must have the same complacent attitude to service provision and customer satisfaction. If you have any alternative, choose another airport. Nothing will improve unless people start to boycott this facility.

Today I鈥檓 not going to talk about my usual bugbear with BHX which is the massive waiting time for luggage every time I land at the airport. This time it鈥檚 the so-called Premium Set Down. The only premium thing about it is the price. Went to pick my partner up from the airport and went to pay the 拢3 for the few minutes it took me and the machine took 拢4.40 off me in coins and then gave me my ticket back. I assumed that I鈥檇 paid but when I drove to the barriers I still had the 拢3 to pay. What a rip-off! Next time will keep my change and pay contactless

Not being funny, how you can you close off the smoking area and not provide an alternative. Sitting in a airport for hours with out being able to smoke.
Yes 鈥榮moking is bad鈥?blah blah, there鈥檚 plenty of bars and restaurants for people to indulge and get drunk, but I can鈥檛 have a cig?
Disappointing to say the least.

ZERO ZERO ZERO. 30TH NOV 2019 QUEUEING UP TO GO THROUGH SECURITY CHECK AT 7.30AM. THE PEOPLE IN THE QUEUE THIS MORNIG QUITE ELDERLY AND A GROUP OF LEARNING DIFFICULTIES PEOPLE SO IT WAS INTIMIDATING TO MOST. AS WE WERE WAITING TO GO THROUGH A WHITE FEMALE GUARD THIN WITH SHOULDER LENGTH DARK HAIR AND A BIG GOB STARTED SHOUTING AT AN ELDERLY COUPLE TO HURRY UP. ONE HAD LEFT A SMALL BOTTLE OF WATER IN HER BAG SO THE GUARD DECIDED TO MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF HER BY SHOUTING ' STOP AND LISTEN CAREFULLY, THE SIGNS ARE THERE FOR A REASON, IF YOU DO NOT ABIDE BY THE SIGNS YOU WILL NOT TRAVEL, CAN YOU NOT READ!! I AM TELLING YOU ALL LOUD ENOUGH.. NO BOTTLES OF DRINK NO SHARP OBJECTS ETC READ THE SIGNS, THEY SRE THERE PLAIN AS YOUR NOSE ON YOUR FACE, WHAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND! THIS IS AN AIRPORT NOT KINDERGARDEN!!..
I WAS MORTIFIED AS THE ELDERLY LADY HAD A HEARING AID IN AND WAS CLEARY UPSET AND FRIGHTENED. SHE HAD JUST TAKEN TABLETS AND MERELY FORGOT TO GET SHOT OF HER WATER!!! THE GUARD WAS RUDE. ARROGANT AND HAD NO COMPASSION OR DIVERSITY. ANOTHER GUARD SAID ITS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE TO TRY AND TAKE FORBIDDEN ITEMS ONTO THE PLANE KNOWINGLY AND THAT WE CAN ALL BE PROSECUTED… ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR. IT TURNS OUT THE ELDERLY LADY WAS TRAVELLING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HER LIFE AND WAS REALLY SHOOK BY HER ORDEAL.. I HAVE BEEN DOING SECURITY FOR 27 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS SUCH UNPROFFESSIONALISM AT THE AIRPORT. SOMEONE PLEASE RE TRAIN THESE MUPPET GUARDS AND TELL THEM THEY ARENT IN A PRISON CAMP. WE ARE JUST FOLK WANTING TO HAVE A NICE TRIP WITHOUT BEING TRAUMATISED BEFORE WE EVEN LEAVE THE COUNTRY…TO TOP IT ALL WHEN I MADE COMMENT TO MY DAUGHTER WHEN PASSING, THE GUARD LOOKED AT ME.AND THEN SMIRKED AT A COLLEGUE STATING WE SHOULD ALL BE PACKED OFF TO THE NUTTY HOSPITAL AS WE ARE ALL SO THICK… WOW…. We hadn't used this airport for along time and won't be using it again. On getting to the airport the departure gate information is non existent, with everyone going up and down like headless chickens trying to find their check in point. There was nowhere to sit in the departure lounge. On arriving back at the airport it took 2 hours from landing to getting our suitcases with no explanation as to why. East Midlands airport from now on.

I have to use OCS for assistance through Airport. MOST of the Staff are friendly however I have had comments to my face nearly every time saying – Why are you In Wheelchair – Nothing wrong with you !!
They often cart you around like a bag of spuds.. NO CARE whatsoever -They all assume !!!!
Pay Peanuts – get Monkeys .. I suggest Management do some investigating ..

I landed in Birmingham after I come back from my holiday, and when I arrived at the passport control the officer was very rude, and ask me a lot of questions about my background and as a brown person was asking me why I have a European country passport which I found very weird (he specifically ask when did I qualify for that passport, even though I am from that country) after that the officer said I can go, then I got stopped by another officer by the door. That officer was nicer and started talking to me about my holiday but again he looked at me and said how come you have that passport when you are … and pointed to the colour of his skin, the way he said it was very inappropriate and he could have asked that question in a different way that would seem less inappropriate.
I have found the whole experience disgusting and not appropriate at all. I always get stopped at the airport as I am brown and I travel a lot and I never really care but at Birmingham airport, it felt very improper.

If you require special assistance DO NOT USE BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT!!

Ambulift not available as staff phoned in sick apparently!

That鈥檚 ok then – obviously zero contingency plans in place – one dodgy and slow climb of aircraft steps later and a knee injury sustained in the process – thanks Birmingham Airport and especially your supposed assistance service providers (OCS) – useless, absolutely useless – a complete and utter disgrace and abysmal service – you should be ashamed of yourselves!!!

CAR PARK 7 – Read the small print – they move your car to an alternate location and bring it back prior to your arrival. Where does it go? Are they upfront about this – Just be aware.

Lack of seating, also no smoking facilities, every other airport in the UK i know has somewhere you can smoke but not Birmingham, that plus lack of public seating is how I've come to my score

If I could give a nil rating i would, this airport has so gone down in my expectations, mainly on arrival back into the UK, passport control is a complete joke and how humiliating when you hear a member of your staff say "here they all come, sheep pen them in" we landed at 11.45pm waited the best part of 20 minutes to go through the scanners with our passports, then waited at the carousel for almost an hour for our cases to come through, 2 flights baggage on the same carousel, how ridiculous!! and to top it all they were completely soaking wet due to the weather being so bad, surely they should have been covered over once taken off the aircraft, i have now come home to damp washing that i had previously washed prior to coming home and now i am having to wash it all again. Unfortunately i have a further 2 flights pre-booked for Christmas and April next year at Birmingham, I am so not looking forward to the return journey. I may add that the staff in duty free are quite pleasant, hence the 1 star, Sorry Birmingham Airport you need to be looking at whoever manages the various departments here and up your game!! May try East Midlands after this, if things haven't improved. We use Arrecife airport 4 times a year who for a small airport knock spots off you guys.

Flew on 7th August. Purchased security fasttrack. Security guard was so in-polite and very condesending when my wife didnt use the correct boarding pass to get through electric scanner.
Upon return on 14th we were took to the furest point of the terminal, without exaggeration there must have been 1500-2000 people just waiting to get to immigration. it took us 1hr 15 mins to finally get to so-called self scanning booths. No staff available to offer any reasoning for this, Only monitor screens with time guide to get to imigration which increased in time as we got closer to the immigration area.
Agree with a previous comment, this airport has gone completely downhill and apparently they plan to expand.
Management should get a reality check and improve staff people skills.

Very poor experience of Birmingham last week. Incorrect check in desks displayed before departure. Take off delayed by 1 hour.

Return journey delayed by 40 minutes which I have heard was due to no capacity for landing.

Waited 40 mins for baggage reclaim.

This airport used to be top dollar but now seems to have gone down considerably in customer experience.

Arrivals appalling! Despite flight arriving early still an hour on waiting for bags… is there a bag handlers strike we aren鈥檛 aware of? No communication, no staff.. not the first time at this airport.. #proudtobebritish

My sister-in-law had a suitcase taken on Monday morning whilst sitting at pret a manger, in the departure lounge. She only realised as she went to answer the call for boarding. The helpful manager there said we should contact the airport security, which the Ryanair staff in the desk told us to do when when we arrived at Lanzarote. To date she has heard nothing despite emailing and trying to 'phone. There is a part of the airport website which speaks of lost luggage, and there was a suitcase handed in, but despite registering this we do not know if it was hers. It has meant she has nothing to wear and would need to make an insurance claim but cannot establish if it is her case that has been handed in and has no reference. Otherwise we found the airport staff helpful, pleasant, and well organised.It is a pity as this was a trial run to use the airport for the first time. Please could someone help Fiona. Thank you

Shame on the wheel chair staff of Birmingham Airport! Wheel chair assistance staff is very rude, unprofessional and disrespectful to the elderlies and vounrables.
Yesterday my mother-in-law travelled to this airport she had a wheelchair assistance.
She has a bad back and bad knees for many years and due to this she never visited us before. This time we manage to convince her that we will make arrangements for wheelchair so that she can get assistance.
Birmingham wheel chair staff misbehaved with her and did not provided her the wheelchair dragged her out and disrespectfully treated her very badly…. Did not assisted her at all with her luggage and she has to get assistance from other pessanger. When other pessanger tried to help her, this head lady started shouting on them telling them not to help her as they are not related to her.
Thankyou to the Birmingham Airport staff for spoiling her holidays! Our parents travel for 9-10 hours and come to see us and spend sometime with their grandkids and this is how your staff behaves with them and treat them disrespectful. They do not say nything as they do jot know their rights and they just want to be out of the airport. Shame on you!
