I'm so incredibly disappointed. I have had my credit card with Capital One since it partnered with Costco Canada in 2014. With $16000 credit limit, we used it very frequently. In July 2019, we moved to the States. Initially, I called Capital One Canada to update mailing address (cannot DIY through online account). One of representatives insisted that it's not allowed. It's really hard to believe that USA restricts cross-border mails from credit card company in Canada (?!). Anyway, since it's Capital One "policy" that I couldn't update mailing address to the one in the States, I had no choice other than closing the account even though I would like to keep the card for future use during trips in Canada. The cancellation process has lasted almost a year till now. Whenever there was unexpected automatic renewal charge incurred, I had to go through the refund-to-zero-balance before able to close account. Today I followed up with Capital One Canada as instructed by one of the reps last time and was supposed to process the refund and close account. The representative was quite rude and kept asking me in a very harsh tone to listen to her (shouldn't it be the opposite?). Never had such worst experience with a customer service rep. It's good that I don't need to deal with Capital Once Canada. If you may relocate to other country one day, I wouldn't recommend to have this credit card, just to avoid a hassle and unpleasant experience at the end like mine.

There was a fire in my building and people hadron find accommodations for the night, I booked a hotel room online and when I got to the hotel they said there was a charge of 50 deposit to be put on my credit card , I had some credit left on my card but was short maybe 20$, I called capitalistone and told them of my situation and asked if they would accept the 50$ hold for one night so I didn鈥檛 have to sleep on the street and they dined my requests, my limit is only 300 and they could see I made a payment of 100 but they still said no . I was stunned because I had no other options in places to stay . 20$ shy of not sleeping in the streets, I thought it was a no brainer but they said no . When you call capitalone the recording says they鈥檙e sympathetic to covid victims but not to me , why? The girl I spoke to even hung up on me when I asked for a reason as to why , unbelievable. Is not the fire in my building not more dire , was I not more suseptable to covid being out on the streets??? Something smells fishy here . I鈥檓 sure I won鈥檛 hear from capitalistone snd that鈥檚 ok cause I鈥檓 not paying what my bill is , I hope I don鈥檛 break them by not paying the 200$ I owe I would feel terrible putting more people out on the street by not paying my bill because that 200 $ covers a lot of they鈥檙e staff wages and all . So people pay your bill and keep those controlling blood suckers employed . My limit has been 300 for 4 or 5 years and never increased but I always paid off what I owed . Something is telling me they鈥檙e not there for the people , what鈥檚 in your wallet ?

Tried to file a dispute claim in order to get a charge back claim started for airline tickets that were cancelled by Air Canada on march 25, 2020. Was lied to by the initial representative who told me the dispute was in process. I was told that the airline had 45 days to dispute the charge and I should wait 45 days before calling back, When I called back 50 days later the next representative said that no dispute claim had been filed on march 25, 2020. So I asked to open up a dispute now. They stated that regardless of whether the airline had cancelled the flight, Capital one would not allow a dispute claim to be started or a charge back to be given since the airline had given a credit voucher for the amount. I had been a Capital one client for years, but will now cancel my card as a result. If there are no problems then being a cardholder is good but when you need assistance with a merchant they unfortunately do every thing in their power to try to talk you out of filing a dispute. I've read other news stories of people who were using Visa who were able to get a chargeback and were able to get their money back instead of a flight voucher.

If you are thinking about getting a credit card with these guys…run and you will thank me later. I have been their client for over 8 years, I have two credit cards with them, I use their mobile app and website all the time. In 8 years I never had to call them for anything. Yesterday I left my credit card at a gas station, I realized 24hrs later. I tried to call them to freeze the card but it is impossible to contact them. First, I tried to freeze the card in the mobile app and in their website but it is not possible. Huh? I know, one of the biggest banks in America but they are so incompetent and useless that they can't implement this feature in their website. Well, at least they are nice enough to put a phone number to report the issue…When you call that phone number you need to enter your credit card number, yes, even if you don't have it because you lost it…so make sure you memorize the 16 digits if you still decide to get a card with them. Genius, I know. Next, you never talk to an operator, you are always dealing with a machine which is as useless as their website. Of course the machine can't freeze your credit card, it just offers the option to block the card permanently and send you a new one in 10-15 business days to your default address…yeah, it does not ask you for the address. There is no option to talk to an operator, the only way to do it is to cancel the card and then wait 1-2 hours on the phone to talk to a real human…of course I didn't wait. I am happy the machine canceled the credit card, tomorrow I am calling to cancel my other card. I know 8 years of being their client but they just lost me, their machines and crappy website annoyed me…I will wait to receive the cards but I won't activate them, yeah, I want them to spend money printing and sending me a new plastic. Also, you can't email them or chat with them…you can only call them and by them I mean their stupid machines. You're welcome and please don't get a credit card with CapitalOne so hopefully they go out of business one day.

I was affected by the virus and was not able to work for a month. I called Capital One to explain why I was late and made the payment when I got paid recently. I was then told they are providing extension for this month not last month and maybe call back or explain to my bank instead of them explaining to credit bureau. Not only am I a frontline staff and worry about my health…i gotta worry about Capital One. DO NOT GET A CARD WITH THEM

Don't do it!
I tried to apply for a secured Mastercard in order to build/establish credit. I've always been against using credit but it seems it is becoming impossible to do anything in society without one, (renting apartment, applying for a job, changing cellphone or internet providers… absolutely everything requires credit now no matter essential!).
I received an email claiming that I was approved for $2,500. And given option to increase if i wanted. The catch was i needed to supply a $75 security deposit. I paid the deposit but because i moved (work transferred me) i called to update my address (had to really search to find right department) and was told to call back to confirm next Monday. I did this, and they told me that my welcome package (card) was in the mail.
Then days later, I got a slip from Canada post saying it has been held by Mastercard on order to verify identity.
Going in, I was told my ID is not sufficient and have to have ONLY a drivers license, passport, or Ontario ID card. The next day I went everywhere looking to any of these, and ALL offices are closed until further notice due to covid19!!!
Knowing my application expires May2020, I called canada post asking for alternative options, they said it was up to capital one only.
Called capital one, they said they can resend it but ID verification is up to canada post.
I then cancelled my application only to be informed that o cannot apply for two years, and my refund for security deposit would be "in the mail" in two months (two billing cycles), "sorry for the inconvenience"?!?
It might be my fault for never needing a drivers license or paying for a passport (for no reason since I dont travel out of the country), but I really tried to get these things and was set for my driving written exam, then the country shut down!
This is a terrible way to do business, take my money for "security reasons" then make me run around everywhere for extra security purposes, then refund me TWO months after the fact??
TELL PEOPLE THIS BS PROCESS AND POSSIBLE OUTCOMES BEFORE TAKING THEIR MONEY!!!
