On our search we came across the Celsi Touchflame electric fire, which on first inspection looks quite trendy and modern, very similar to a large iPhone. We did like all the features such as the digital touchscreen, the different flame and light effects and the remote control, It鈥檚 a very appealing product aesthetically, but that鈥檚 where the good news ends.
The fire has some very serious design faults, firstly and the most serious is the fact that they are prone to overheating very regularly, even after being on for a short period of time. Following this the fan will stop and the colour changing ember bed that is made of an opaque strip of plastic to allow the LED colours to light up the crystals or the logs will expand with any residual heat that rises from the heater fan directly below it, thus making the logs or crystals raise up exposing the LED lights below.
Another problem is the actual rotation mechanism that gives the projected flame effect will start to get very noisy following any overheating, this noise does not disappear after the fire has been allowed to cool and the first one we had started to sound like a tractor.
A less serious issue, but a design fault never-the-less is the top of the fire has punched out vents for cooling, these vents allow the LED lights to cast a finger like light show out of the top of the fire. If the fire is wall mounted – as ours was, this becomes a very annoying distraction when you鈥檙e just wanting to sit and watch the TV.
We did really like this fire and actually had it replaced 4 times by BFM (British Fire Manufacturers) in an attempt to get a good one, but unfortunately all of them had the same issues so we ended up sending them all back and getting a refund.

In December 2014 a few days after the 2 year warranty had expired the fire went dead. I contacted Celsi who were unconcerned until I mentioned leaving a negative post on their Facebook page. They decided that they would send an engineer out. 3 weeks later and no sign of this engineer I decided to post the fire back to them. They fixed it and it was returned but by now it was March…a full 3 months after it first failed.
This fire went dead again at the start of December 2015. I rung Celsi and they was going to get back to me within 2 hours. 3 days later and having herd nothing I parceled it up and returned it to them. 3 weeks later and having herd nothing I posted a negative comment on there Facebook page. This stung them into action…I had a call…it was down the lab. 2 weeks later they rung again…..the spare part to repair this fire was unavailable…the fire was scrap. I told the story on their facebook page and was contacted by them….I could buy a new fire off them for 拢255…a 20% discount.
I know its a throw away age, but this very expensive fire failed for the 2nd time before its 3rd Birthday.
I am very disappointed
