terrible to use. super complicated security measures which are not helpful. account blocked and difficult to unblock. did NOT feel safer. Just annoyed. i have been with them for 7 years. after many problems and inability to use and get my money I canceled the account. I would NOT recommend to open an account here.

Terrible, just terrible. Link to activate online banking didn't work, had to do a lot of customer service calls and paperwork back and forth to even activate my account. Honestly, f**c this.

Registration was quick and easy, but sadly that was about the only good thing.
They don't offer you a real credit card for some reason, just some toy prepaid credit card. I could understand this stance if I had debt and or bad credit, but neither is the case. I never had debts in my life and I'm financially stable. I've tried requesting a real credit card with a very low limit, but to no avail. Never had this problem before with other banks, I usually get offered far higher limits than I want.
Well since those toy prepaid credit cards are mostly not accepted abroad the bank account is sadly pretty worthless now. It's fine for children but that's about it.

worked great for me so far – no problems at all – not sure why so many negative reviews here – it's a bank and definitely as good as it gets if not better than most banks, especially for trading and buying stocks.

I called in with the help of my German partner, as I am not fluent in German yet. The operator decided to block my account, even though I was ON THE LINE. She said that it is against the company麓s privacy protocols (?) and would not listen to a word I wanted to say. Instead of being helpful, she created more problems for me.

Such a shame for a good online banking company. A little suggestion would be to either make everything competent online (chaning the address and so on) or have a better customer service team. Just terrible experience!

Despite being a faithful customer of Comdirect for many years, my bank account was terminated and customer service refused to provide any explanation for the bank's decision – all they could tell me was that they had every legal right to cancel my bank account, just as I too had the right to cancel my bank account on my own accord.

I believe the termination of my bank account was ultimately related to several large wire deposits from overseas to my Comdirect account, but as far as I know this is not against the law and certainly not a good enough reason to show a loyal customer the door.

Basically, have been trying to make a girokonto for almost a month, no success. They keep sending me back the contract, with little to none explanation. The customer service is almost non-existant. I was optimistic about this bank, a friend of mine has a konto with them, but now I almost want to convince them to shut it down. Maybe comdirect should take down the huge banner by the side of their building that states: 鈥渂est bank of 2019鈥? At this point I would say that its false advertisement.

Terrible customer service.
As a newcomer in Germany, applied for an account and card 10 days ago, still have not received anything. When trying to contact them by any means, no one is able to speak English.

At the end of day, I don't have an account, I cannot cancel what has already been sent and cannot retrieve my personal data.

Synchronise with the rest of world people, this is unacceptable.

Ich bin schon recht lange ein Kunde und habe noch nie irgendeinen Grund gehabt, mich zu beschweren. Der Telefon Service ist top, wenn man mal Fragen hat oder Hilfe braucht. Hin und wieder gibt es sogar den einen oder anderen richtig guten Tipp. Ich "mache auch ein bissel mit Aktien rum", und wenn ich mich 盲rgere, dann nur 眉ber mich selber…..Fazit: Alles bestens. Klar, es gibt Alternativen zuhauf, aber solange hier alles so rund l盲uft, bleibe ich ich auch hier.

ComDirect Germany seems to hire the most incompetent and unfriendly people for their customer service. I just had this experience with one of their people, although I remained calm and respectful, he just hung up. Too bad this bank does not allow for face to face encounters. I would really enjoy meeting the person who hung up on me….

Bad Service: The phone app for kids accounts was good until it started to log me out instantly every time I want to see my balance on the account. Also the Photo TAN app is extremely useless too since it thinks that the photo TAN procedure isn't activated for my device even though I have activated it with the exact same phone. I've contacted the support via E-Mail and all I hear from the is that I'm in a "queue" and that they'll try their best to fix the problem but they do nothing. Instead of helping me with my account, they set up a 90-day session TAN that needs to be scanned every 90 days. VERY bad service, since they do nothing about the problems I've reported. Never using Comdirect again after expiration of my kids bank account. Also they have a SERIOUS issue with their websites because it shows me that the photo TAN is active but whenever I try to make an internal transaction between my main account to my VISA the website says that the photo TAN procedure isn't activated!? What the heck! Fix everything and I'll (maybe) give them another go but do not make a kids account at Comdirect! Make your life easier!

I have forgotten my PIN and contacted the customer service the first time. They told me to send in email with my signature and ID, I did. One week later, nothing from them. I called again, they said wait another week, I asked what if I still hear nothing from them for another week. They said they don't know and basically cannot help me any further.

Please do yourself a favor and find another bank

I was told by several people to open a bank-account with comdirect. I am German citizen with a German passport (born in Germany!), but am no longer living in Germany. However, I still would like to open a German bank account as, due to my job, I might return to Germany. Unfortunately, this bank requires an identification via a phone-app. This App only works with a German number though. No German living outside of Germany will be able to proof their identiy! Thus, this App is not constructed for its purposes as it will not recognise any phone numbers outside of Germany. Absolute crap! And the "recommendation" of identifying your identity via a notary is absolutely ridiculous. Unless they are paying for this service, I am not willing to pay horrendous prices. Seriously, who ever has heard about an APP which works for 1 country only, but offering service for people living outside of this country??? One of these does not fit together!

I went to comdirect for opening my first Depot to be able to trade on the Stock Market.
And I am rather pleased with the bank and it's service.
I like the very fast response time of the service, the easy to use depot and what I really liked was the videos and articles on the site teaching your how the Stock Market worked.
I can't give 5 stars cause a lot of the tools that the platform has are only usable with IE11, because they are using an old java based system.
There are a lot of small hick-ups that the site still has that could be improved and are regularly asked by the community.
And the community is what equals the bad things I just listed. If you need help, have a question or are unsure on what to do, there are plenty of people there to help you out.
I can't say anything about the Giro account and the other services the bank is offering since I don't use them.
So 4 stars until they improve their website, then it is 5 stars.

My primary bank account since many years. Since some time i'm also trading stocks there, the fees are low and they offer off-market Livetrading, which saves some additional fees.

The user community is great, giving much information and tipps on current market strategies.

No Problems which could be solved in a friendly way.

Absolutely terrible bank. Look at all the other reviews here saying the same thing. Here are some of the problems I've had:

1) FEEEEEESSSS!!! FEES FOR ALL OF YOU!!!! They may seem like a good deal on the surface but where they get you is the fees. Sneaky little fees for stupid things that quickly add up. I've been losing 50-100鈧?per month in fees since I've had my comdirect account.
2) Their ATMs are nowhere to be found in Germany. You end up having to make a 15-20minute special trip any time you want to withdraw money without paying a ridiculous fee. Ain't nobody got time for that.
3) They use this annoying security feature called TAN where you need to enter a code every time you want to do a bank transfer online. To use this you either need to have this crappy sheet of A4 paper that you need to keep track of and carry with you at all times, or you can use their mobileTAN service where they send you an SMS with the code. The catch is that they will charge you yet another fee every time you use mobileTAN. THEY MAKE YOU PAY THEM FOR THEIR ANNOYING SECURITY FEATURE!!??? Cheeky buggers.
4) Their online systems have errors constantly, so the balance shown in your acount (either amount available or total balance) never reflects the real values. This makes keeping track of your money nearly impossible.
5) There is no help in English. If you are an english speaking person living in a non-English speaking country you should avoid comdirect.

I opened an account with comdirect, received the debit and EC cards. But when I tried to activate my account it did not work. I contacted comdirect that told me my account had been cancelled. When I ask for the reason by mail, they answered that they did not have to tell me…
I am not sure this is legal.
AVOID, don't waist your time with these guys

I would have given ZERO stars if I had the option.
I opened a account as a US citizen in Germany, because my family lives in Germany. The goal was to obtain a Girokonto card, since it is the most common way to pay in Germany.
I always had money in the account and transferred money for my upcoming vacation.
Money was accepted and when I wanted to use my card 3 days later in Germany, it was declined. After calling customer service, I was told the account was closed with NO explanation. The only explanation was "…per our contracts rights!"
So my vacation money is frozen in the account and in Germany with no money. Thanks for ruining my GREAT VACATION!!

Very bad expirience! They do everything for to mislead in error a client and then refuse to help. The one thing that they can repeat is:

I have been a customer of Comdirect since February 2015 when I opened the Girokonto and a Tagesgeld Konto as non-resident (I am from Argentina and still live in Argentina), as I had a chat with 2 agents who confirmed me that Comdirect welcomes customers from many countries (as explained in deutcheskonto.org) and I expressed to one of those agents that I wanted a LONG TIME banking relationship with a German bank and I was then told with Comdirect will have a lasting banking relationship. Promise will not apparently be respected…

Later, during April 2017 I opened a Depot Konto with Comdirect as everything was working wonders during 2017. Being all well till November 2018 when Comdirect sent me a letter stating they wanted to finish my banking relationship… what I see is something happening to MANY Comdirect customers. With NO reason and completely surprising as I always followed all formalities.

There are so many contradictions within Comdirect as what they state in "Comdirect Community" that they only want customers from the EU and with high balances… however that is not expressed in their website. I ensured Comdirect that I am having my Italian nationality in February 2019 and offered to increase my combined account balance under cases 4240546 and 4256396 but still no response from Comdirect. I also emailed the German Bank Ombudsman and will see what arises.

Comdirect is not showing to be a serious bank, they are behaving a in a dreadful way and I do hope they modify this atittude that doesn麓t encourage investing in Germany.

Mir wurde mein Konto nach einer Auslands眉berweisung von meinem UK Konto auch gek眉ndigt. Ohne Grund. Ohne Kommunikation. Musste tausende von Euros ein neues Zuhause finden. Die Bank ist l盲cherlich. NIE WIEDER! FINGER WEG VON DIESEN IDIOTEN.

comdirect is a pathetic excuse for a bank. Without reason, without communication, and without hesitation they announced that they were going to close my account because I received some money from a UK account BELONGING TO ME, YOU MORONS!

Do not trust this bank and do not waste your time with these jokers!

It's still a bank, but compared to many other banks that I had business with Comdirect ranks even with the better experiences I made and way better compared to some really horrible encounters I had.
