After the death of loveroms, emuparadise, and The Iso Zone, one might be tempted to turn to coolrom as it seems to be the ONLY Rom site that doesn't enforce BS practices and hasn't been annihilated by Cease & Desists/Fear of C&Ds yet. Not so fast, bucko. CoolROM does deliver, but if you aren't careful, you could reaaaaaaaaaally mess things up. According to a friend, it's safe on mobile, but god help your poor soul if you don't click that alternative download link on PC. The 'CoolROM Downloader' is notorious in the ROM community for being a sack of bloatware that installs malware and PUPs even after you've told it not to. The fact that this site leads to some… fishy material if you're not lucky enough to have a pop-up/adblocker on hand also doesn't help matters. If you want to use CoolROM, cool, but only if you really need to. It's clear that money has gotten in the way of ethics when it comes to the people who run the site. I can't blame them for that, as running a site is costly and the invention of adblockers has made people desperate for anything that'll hand 'em a little cash. It's just a little annoying to deal with, is my point.

Without prompt, was linked to a fake Adobe Flash Update website. The typical malware (or worse) scheme.

i despise the site a year ago when i was downloading games i noticed they had 0 bytes wtf then another year back ads then screw this im done with this site also im glad nintendo forced them to delete all nintendo games

This site has decided to give it's users some suspicious downloaders every time you click no the download link. Granted, the alternative download links are okay, it's just infuriating that they decided to earn themselves money by scamming users into a downloader that installs malicious programs. Sites like Emuparadise.me are much more safer.

I used to trust this site. It used to be my go to. not after finding that what I downloaded months ago was a Trojan waiting for instructions.
After reading some of the reviews here I'm glad I did a full malware scan when I did. I just wish it'd been sooner. The regular quick scan my av automatically runs in the background apparently, for whatever misguided reason, doesn't include the user/[username]/downloads folders, so for those of you using Windows Defender*, do yourselves a favor and manually scan those folders on a regular basis.

*the standard av included with windows. I know, I know: I probably shouldn't trust a Microcrap product with something so important but my dad seems to think it's the best freeware av. I'm gonna look for something better after this though…

As always, these kind of sites should be illegal. In fact, Nintendo should sue these kind of sites. As always, you have to go through a lot of ads and passwords. Not only that, but sometimes it could give your computer a virus if you stay on too long. And it's hard to get the newer ROMs. That's about it.

DO NOT USE THEIR INSTALLER TO DOWNLOAD. It will give you PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) that infect your browser and do things such as showing ads, popups, and other garbage on every page that you visit… *even* if you *decline* every one of their offers. This practice is just unacceptable. ***They install unwanted programs on your computer without asking for your permission first.*** This is enough to make me stop trusting this site, go to EmuParadise instead which does not force you to jump through hoops and invade your privacy like this.

I used to go to this site all the time for any games I wanted to play, never got any viruses back then. That all changed when they introduced this "CoolROM downloader". The other day I decided to download a game for the first time in years, didn't really think much of the downloader at first, I made sure to uncheck any of the offers they gave me and what do you know? I still end up with the most annoying adware I've ever encountered in all my years. An absolute pain to deal with, and I find it inexcusable to have your downloader giving many people malware.

It's best to stay away from this site these days.I repeat: Stay away!
