Their old site was a lot more cheery, too. In my opinion it just looked nicer.

If you think this is a safe controlled environment to receive "support"it is not
There is a mix of genuine individuals and some very sick people.
Beware. You could get very damaged

Today I discovered these same Pollyanna huggers are the ones who planted a post, ostensibly from a mother suffering from estrangement from her adult children. The "poster" was referred to an estrangement support group hosted by Daily Strength, except that the group had no recent activity and is actually defunct. I believed the poster was an honest person seeking help, and I sent her a private message offering to help her find it. I received no answer but was immediately banned.
It's a shame that some kind of twisted "loyalty" to DS would get in the way of getting people the help they are looking for. And it's a damn shame that they find it necessary to lure well-meaning others with false posts and then ban them when they believe the plants and try to help others find support, regardless of who hosts the group!
In my opinion, people like that deserve to be stuck in the hole DS dug for them. I'm outta there!

I swear I did not make this up, it is an actual thread that was posted there yesterday, August 21. I have a hard time believing that this is for real, but I was told that it was.

Topic: How the heck do I get rid of fruit flys?
Posted by: XXXXX: A month ago we got some old grapes and I guess the fruit flys were hybrenating in them. Anywy now we can't seem to get rid of them. It is awful. I hate bugs! I've tried the vinegar in the bottle trap and the sticky fly things. I even tried to vacuum them up. They seem to get less for a day then return with a vengance. There is no rotten food around–I checked and cleaned out what was old. Only the cats food is out and we cannot spray insecticides where then live. Any suggestions are welcome and I will try most anything at this point. HELP!

Replier #1: you could move.
Replier #2 (this from a community leader!): I googled the problem, and found the same solution you tried, the vinegar in a bottle method. Did you use a funnel at the top to make it hard for them to get out? I think that is a critical part. Sorry if you already did all of that.
Reply #3: You could try getting a flea collar, cutting a small piece off of the collar, activating that small piece (I used to have to pull it), then putting that piece in the vacuum cleaner and vacuuming up the fruit flies. (The flea collar killing the vacuumed up flies.) I know it works for fleas, and I think that I heard somewhere that it works for the fruit flies too. I've never tried it though. If you try it and it works… post back again?
XXXXX: Thanks for the ideas. I do use the top of the bottle as the funnel from the youtube video. I've spent time also getting some with the fly swatter. They sleep at night and don't fly around. That might be a good time to try the vacuum! I don't want to move but they make me feel like I'm on "hoarders" I really hate bugs!
Replier #4 (to Replier #3, the community leader), you hit the nail on the head! Get that funnel on the bottle… it really works! Apple cider vinegar is the best… they are attracted it… Let us know if it works for you. Change the funnel often… Sandra.
Replier #3, the wise community leader: I think that the inverted funnel is the trick! The flies have to find that tiny whole to get out where as the funnel "funnels" them into the bottle. Relying on the neck of the bottle (like a wine bottle) may not work because the funnel shape does nothing to make it hard for them to get back out.
Replier #5: Depending on how many you have flying around in your house. You can put a little cup of orange juice in a cup and set it on the counter and near where the grapes were. They will be attracted to it but make sure you get rid of the cup if there are fruit in it. Replace with new juice. In the meantime swat them with your hands. Eventually they will disappear. Good luck.
Replier #6: the food doesn't have to be rotting to attract fruit flies. Make sure there is no food left out, period. Also make sure the trash cans are well covered and no food scraps on dishes in the kitchen. They only have a 24 hour lifespan, so you'll know when they don't have food – they'll be all dead. Especially watch fruit bowls and stuff like that.
Replier #7 fruit flies can't survive without fruit. The flies are actually little eggs on the skin of fruit and as the skin ages the flies grow and then, start to fly. So you have something in the area that is causing the flies to continue to grow. Check all cabinets, etc. There may even be some fruit juice somewhere.
Replier #8 Is this for real?
Replier #9: Yes, it is for real!
XXXXX: I will get new vinegar and try the orange juice when I can. Last night not a fly was to be found then looking up, they were all on the ceiling! I do use a fly swatter frequently, especially late in the day. That seems to be when they are most active.

LifeAfterDS less than a minute ago: Oh, man, I couldn't even make this stuff up. Way too funny! I am going to copy this and post it into a few former DS sites just to show them what we are missing over here. I think they ought to know where they can get loving support and expert advice if they are ever afflicted by the heartbreak of fruit flies.

What would be laughable (if it wasn't so pathetic), is that when migrating information to the "new and improved" Daily Strength, the team chose to include a significant number of defunct and inactive groups (plus their membership lists) that had been abandoned by their founders months and even years earlier. While this looks good on reports submitted by the team to Dr. Oz, it does not bode well for the future of Daily Strength or its few remaining members who are (im)patiently awaiting its revival.

The site plants a serious "evercookie" which cannot be deleted in clearing cache and cookies, since it runs in many systems of the computer. Its a tracking cookie and nearly impossible to remove. It also causes long running scripts which froze my PC every time I left the site, also the PC crashed once (a new PC).
Emails opened from DailyStrength can contain tracking material.
This IS a dangerous site! Not just in psychological harm, or PC damage. I immediately was lured in private messages by a few users to give out my phone # , since the user was "not good at writing posts"….duh? Also the private messages were inquiring of my location. This site is a playground for predators.
The moderators will not care. They will have Daily Strength delete you with no explanation. With one browser I couldn't sign in, even with cookies enabled, I think because I had "Do not track" in place.
The "regulars" were promoting medicines and therapy in their topics/comments. This site or at least certain groups, are big $money-makers$ for the self interests they are promoting. Also group members will write how great this group of supportive friends is in this amazing group, but it isn't true, it's manipulation. The newbie will feel an outsider and will give up and leave, while the group will show a HUGE and ever-growing membership. The posts talk a good talk, but the talk is more for the non-member, not for the member. It's all about capitalism, and the dynamics jeopardize the well being of anyone who is vulnerable and actually needs support. Greater isolation and lack of trust in people will be the result, in addition you may be scammed by predators. The moderator won't care about the phishing private messages, btw.
AVOID!
