We took delivery of a rental MPV at Bucharest Airport which was in fairly scruffy condition but we took photos of all the damage and stains on the upholstery and felt reasonably safe. A first for us was when we were told that before returning the vehicle we had to take it through a car wash – otherwise, we would be fined 鈧?0. It performed well and did all that we required of it. The surprise was when we returned it after having used the car wash. The operator went directly to two small marks hidden inside the doorframe, logged this as two damages and retained the 鈧?200 deposit. When we complained that this was outrageous the answer was 'You have excess Insurance so why are you worried?' It would seem to me that at 鈧?200 extra per rental it would not take long before they were able to buy a new vehicle. When I said I would complain to my credit card company I was told that they would simply change the name of the Company and move on. This is a total scam and I can only say to car renters at Bucharest Airport to beware.
