Dorylax Pro Premium Review

Purchased 04 Sep, 2020

I ordered the Dorylax Pro 鈥楶remium鈥?under the 鈥楩ree Trial鈥?scheme; you pay 拢1.00 and then, after 90 days, two further monthly instalments of 拢99.

Apart from horrendous delivery issues (DHL 鈥?another sorry story), I was disappointed to find that this Chinese made machine was way overpriced. Dorylax Pro charge as much as 100% more for exactly the same design, which can be found on eBay and elsewhere for around 拢89.99; quite a bit cheaper than the 拢199 that Dorylax Pro charge for the 鈥楶remium鈥?model. Premium? I found nothing on the company鈥檚 website that actually defined the difference between the standard and premium models. You are asked for 拢20 more, but for exactly what? This was the first sign that something is not quite right with Dorylax Pro.

The machine arrives packaged in a large rectangular box, but it is disassembled. The fact that one has to assemble the machine is not stated on the website and might bother those less inclined to DIY. I used a ratchet ring spanner and electric driver with an Allen key to speed up assembly.

Once assembled I found the standard of build to be mediocre. The Dorylax Pro is painted with a matte grey paint, which I presume to be hard wearing; however, mine arrived with a deep scratch on the supporting stanchion. A trawl of the net revealed that there is an American version, which has chromed chest adjustment bars (to facilitate easy in/out adjustment), and other more attractive components. Notwithstanding that the machine was carefully put together with all bolts tightened, I found it rickety, and somewhat 鈥楬eath Robinson鈥? the machine rocks on a hard surface and the chest and handle subframe assembly was off centre. Closer inspection revealed that the pivot point had been incorrectly welded to the top of the main stanchion, causing the whole subassembly to be skewed.

Using the machine is easy; however, it did nothing for me 鈥?no matter how I adjusted it. The ergonomics are all wrong and I did not experience a reasonable backstretch. Further, I found that, when fully forward, my stomach impacted with the chest and handle subassembly pivot point, which was very uncomfortable. In point of fact, one can get a better stretch just by hanging from a bar. I can say this with some authority, as I formally worked for years as an Army physical training instructor (PTI), ACSM H/FI, and NHS Health and Wellness Senior Manager; in short I have a wide background in physical training, instruction, and fitness leadership/management. Unfortunately, I also have quite advanced lumbar disc disease (LDD) from years of extreme sports and martial arts training, and I am now paying for my years of over vigorous exercise. In summary, I have helped people recover from back injuries, but I also had major injuries, and I now suffer myself from LDD and associated spinal stenosis – such is life. As we age, a certain amount or spinal degeneration is inevitable, particularly in the lower back. Of course, genetics, gender, background, injury, disease, and sporting pursuits all have their part to play as to whether we develop early onset spinal degeneration 鈥?and how badly we may be affected. People who have chronic/acute back pain will often try anything to relieve their symptoms so that they may have a semblance of normal life. It is easy to be taken in by slick graphics, pseudoscience, and hyped up websites.

As one can get the same machine elsewhere for around 拢90, I do not recommend purchasing this design of back decompression device from Dorylax Pro. The company claim that the development of this design emanated from Australia. There is a similar Australian device called the 鈥楴ubax Trio鈥? and the makers make similar claims as to their machine鈥檚 efficacy, albeit that this device works from a kneeling position. Just because someone in a white coat explains the alleged benefits, does not imply that the results claimed are scientifically sound, or achievable for everyone. Any exercise physiologist will tell you that spinal decompression can be achieved simply by doing floor exercises, and by hanging from a bar; however, not everyone has the physical capacity to do this. For those less capable of suspending themselves by their hands, inversion tables achieve a similar effect and this method of spinal decompression is both tried, tested, and scientifically validated.

Long story short, after just one day of my free trial, I have emailed the company to cancel my order. I am now buying a Teeter LX9 Inversion Table, which I know works for me. Unfortunately, it seems that I have to pay for the return. This make a nonsense of the supposed 鈥楩ree Trial鈥?
