A while ago I wrote a review about owner Mark Nooijen. He did not follow our special instructions, resulting in the products not arriving in good order. After 5 years of following the instructions we could reasonably have expected him to do so again. This follow-up review is about his behaviour towards us after we complained, as a warning to potential clients of what behaviour to expect.
We initially asked him to refund half of the costs but we have long since given up on that. Sending the products back is not an option because shipping costs from here are so high that it would make more sense to just reorder. We also believe that we should not have to make costs for something he did or didn't do (note that he will not refund shipping costs). As a minimum he could have apologised about the fact that he did not give us at least the option to cancel the order now he is no longer willing to follow any special instructions. If he had done that we would have let it go.
The reason why we still want to have a dialogue with him is that he has stated several times "Everytime we refunded the money", which is a lie. By making this comment he implies that we (!) are lying because in my review I mentioned that he has never refunded us. Stating "Everytime we refunded the money" while he has never done so is deceitful. He publicly tarnishes our reputation. Earlier this month we sent him 4 e-mails asking why he made this statement, but he never responded. A couple of days ago I let him know that I would review him again so that prospective customers would know that he acts unethically and deceitfully. This time he did respond:
"Go ahead. Will contact Google to block all your Gmail accounts then. Publishing fake reviews is not done with Gmail accounts. Read their terms of conditions. You look like criminals, want free products, publishing fake reviews, spanning, threathening us etc etc."
Firstly, I don't think Google will block my Gmail accounts when they are contacted by a third (vindictive) party? Secondly, a fake review is a review about something that has never happened so I don't think this is a fake review? Thirdly, calling (past) customers "criminals" is not very professional. Fourthly, we have paid for all our orders. We asked for a refund after our first order in 2014 because it did not arrive in good order, however never got it and we didn't make a point of it. We just added special instructions with our yearly orders from 2015 onwards. Fifthly, "spanning" ("spamming"?) is something he probably could say as we did send him a lot of e-mails at the end of last year because we wanted to have a dialogue so we would understand his statement "Everytime we refunded the money". Sixthly, is telling him that I will review him again the same as "threathening" ("threatening"?) him? I think I do have the right to warn prospective customers.
After his "Go ahead" response I asked him again why he stated "Everytime we refunded the money". He finally responded as follows: "Yes we did refunded even wehen your received also the products. You are bad people. Please review now and we will finish this with google.".
This means he was lying again. When I next asked for proof (like bank statements) of the refunds he responded as follows: "You can find yourself." Not sure how to find transactions that never took place! He also responded with "Never had customers like you, blackmailing, threatening about the color of the chocolate its very sad". The thing is, if you buy a black shirt and you get a white one, or you buy a set of glasses and they are chipped, you would want these replaced even though the shirt could be worn and the glasses could be used. In our case it was worse as the taste was very much affected.
For us this is no longer about the order. This is about the unprofessional, unethical and deceitful behaviour of the owner (as explained we initially asked him to refund half of the costs but if he had just apologised we would have let it go) and who decided to demean himself by lying in public. We think we really need to let potential clients know what to expect.

Please know that although there is the option during the ordering process to include special instructions, the owner might disregard these instructions even if they are followed up by an e-mail from the customer to reiterate the instructions. I don't know if this is on purpose or by accident, however if this is by accident then he should take responsibility for his mistake. If this is on purpose and he no longer wants to follow special instructions then he should give the customer the option to cancel the order. He should not simply ignore the instructions and just go ahead and send the order! Especially since in our case he did follow our special instructions in the past 5 years.

We have a dispute with Dutch Expat Shop and specifically owner-director Mark Nooijen. He has refused to sign up with any mediation organisation (e.g. Thuiswinkel Waarborg, Webshop Keurmerk/Webshop Trustmark, Consumentenbond, Geschillencommissie) so we cannot have a 3rd party make the decision on who is right, despite Mark saying in an e-mail he would accept their decision. (He has to sign up with one of these organisations before they will mediate). Be very careful dealing with this company. Mark has a law degree so obviously knows exactly what he can get away with legally. As we, like all his clients, live abroad by definition ("Dutch EXPAT shop") he knows it would be very hard for us to prosecute him or his company under Dutch law, but the worst thing is that he doesn't even WANT to try to keep his customers happy and coming back…

Very rude, if they even answer as they ignore most of the emails, and pitiful customer service. Took weeks for the order to arrive and exactly half the items were incorrect. Items were missing or cheaper alternatives were sent instead (10% cheaper on the price listed on their website). After emailing ( 20 times!) I was told to ship the items back at my own cost despite it being their mistake, and that them sending me cheaper alternatives were part of the terms and conditions of their website. Refused to give me their contact number so we can come to a solution, and ignore my requests to send me the missing items or refund me the difference of sending me cheaper items. After 3 days of rude replies and ignored emails I gave up trying to get my money back.

I moved to the United States a few years ago and i mis some Dutch products. I used to order Dutch products from Dutch supliers in the US and that way you have your products faster but they only have a small selection and the prices for the products is much higher.
If you order from the Dutch expand shop the shipping costs are higher but if you order a more products the lower price of the products will make up for that.

I have ordered with them multiple times now. And I have been very happy with all the products. They get packed very well for international travel. The only time my shipment arrives later or with parts a little ruffled it is because it was opened by costums, and that is out of the hands of the seller.

I was really suprized by the bad reviews and I think it has a lot to do with cultural differences, and international shipping. Costumers from the US should keep in mind that Dutch products have a much shorter shelf life then products from the US, because they contain far less preservitives, and that is part of the reason it tastes different.

The only thing I think they could inprove is there website, it is slow.

I bought Lays potato chips of a flavor not available in Italy. Everything went fine, packaging, the expiration date of the chips, I had no need to contact customer service because I didn't have any problems. Maybe the only thing I can mention is the shipping rate is a little high, maybe in future they will adjust that detail by relying on another shipping company.
Well, anyways, thank you very much, I am satisfied, I will purchase again from them.

Fantastic service.
We ordered the peanut butter we simply can't live without from The Dutch Expat shop (and a few other treats).
Order was accepted. Got a tracking code quickly and the order was delivered within a week (during Corona, in the Middle East).

Delighted with the products we received, all packaged well and all with plenty of time to use (expiry dates are great).

It won't be the last time I order from them. Already making a wishlist of other 'home' comforts.

I have ordered baby formula twice from this website and I have to say I have been super pleased. The order process was seamless and the formula for my baby arrived in 3 days! Super efficient. It is disheartening to see all the negative reviews when someone has such a positive experience especially when it comes to something as sensitive as baby formula. The product sad Intact, in- date and professionally packed.
Thank you.

So rude customer service. I ordered bunch of formula for my son (about 10 (stage 2 and 3) because i am ordering from US ) and stage 3 had expiration date that will expire in 2 month. seems like it doesn't matter how many items I order but i need to finish in 2 month. They don't understand my situation and not even sorry for this. Expiring in 2 month, is that normal?? I don't think I am going to order again from here.

I had the unfortunate experience of an extremely rude and racist customer service representative that I was emailing regarding my order tracking. I'm looking at taking this to the higher management.

Address input was correct, except country destination had defaulted to Nederland and it should have been the US (and there literally is no city name or zip code in Nederland that would have matched anything close in that country), rather than redoing a relatively small $40 order, they thought it was more important to argue that it was all my mistake.

Be careful! If you don't want to get overdue products jus to stay away with this company! Horrible!
I wasn't aware of any google reviews or done any research until I got messed up by them, then I started doing my own research on this company…….don't believe one single review but if you see a lot of reviews have the same issues….you got be careful & stay away with trouble & hassles!

I've used the Dutch Expat shop twice now to order a food item that is not available where I live. Shipping has been quick and efficient both times and the item was well-packed. Prices were good too. I look forward to using them again in the future.

They stole $150 from us. I ordered some cheese from them and the order was delayed for more than a week (on their site, they say they'll tell you if they can't ship your order in 3 days). I asked them about my order, and they told me it will ship on the same day they replied. A day later, it still didn't ship. So I asked them to cancel the order. After that they disappeared, so I asked again and they started sending insults and calling me names. Below is an example of their response to my Google Review of their shop, calling me names and saying I'm using fake names because I asked my SO to submit a new review because my old one got deleted.

"Hi _____, we did not steal 125 euro's from you. You were very aggressive to us, so we asked you to contact your creditcard company to get your money back to avoid more aggressive conversations from you. We always give our customers their money back when we can't deliver a product. That's why our chargeback percentage is very low (just 3 out of 18000 transactions this year). Anyway, thanks for spending so much time on the Youtube video 🙂 Please next time copy paste the whole conversation."

I posted a Youtube video with the emails I sent and received from them. You can see how they respond and then they're calling me "aggressive". Just search "Dutch Expat Shop" on Youtube and the video with that same title will show up.
