Encore Catering

We had two baguettes and a cup of coffee at Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery today, totalling 拢9.15. The food is supplied to the caf茅 at the art gallery by Encore Catering apparently.

I hate to say it but the sandwiches were the worst I've ever tasted. The bread of both baguettes was white, doughy, unattractive looking and dense, refrigerated for added mortuary appeal. The fillings – one salmon and the other vegetables – whilst not too bad, were both quite meagre in terms of the amount for that amount of bread, but deceptively filled from the sandwich opening, disappearing quite quickly when you opened the baguette up to discover that only the front half of each sandwich actually had any filling. Effectively, we bought two baguettes for 拢7.30 and about 80% of the sandwich was bread fit only for the pigeons. Safe to say, you'll find fresher, more appetising items with better fillings in the Museum's taxidermy section.

I'm not sure if Encore Catering also supply the coffee, but that too was pretty awful stuff.

As we sat there trying to eat our way around the bread as best we could we wondered what the many tourists coming to Glasgow's best known museum and gallery might think of such poorly prepared food and drink. It was just awful and a terrible waste of the best part of a tenner.

Encore's website is full of photos of appetising dishes. These don't in any way resemble the fluorescent-lit petrol station assortment to be found in the Kelvingrove Caf茅. Encore also list a host of other venues for which they cater. Fore-warned is fore-armed….
