FreeUP Mobile

I just signed up for their free plan which is 250 minutes or texts, no data. I'm using it on an iPhone 5S, for use as a backup phone.

I signed up for the plan at the end of last week and the SIM card arrived just a few days later. I activated it yesterday and their service seems to be working just fine.

I wish the plan offered some data, but I can't argue with free.

The only caveat with the plan is that I have to manually renew the plan each month on their website.

I had tried Freedompop's free plan a few months ago and that company was completely unscrupulous. So it was a nice surprise to find FreeUp.

FreeUp has multiple plans, and I have had the $0 "Free Plan" (see screencap*) for 2陆 months now. I had to buy a FreeUp SIM card ($5 + $4.99 shipping) to install into an old Samsung AT&T "Windows Phone" given me by a friend, from his drawer-full of old phones I had given away my previous phone (from a different provider) in disgust. Five minutes to install the SIM, two minutes to call and activate, and a half-hour later I made my first test call to my friend to let him know his old phone was now alive again.
The $0 "Free Plan" is pretty basic, but it serves my purposes well and it's FREE.

*I put an "eraser stroke" through the IMEI for security reasons.
