Internet Infidels is the best venue I know of for sharing information on current events, not just religious matters. The site is apparently visited by many bright young people with a wide range of life experiences, political views and personal beliefs.

You should always take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt (that should be a given). But in terms of safety, this site is clean.
